Step 1: note when and where the smell is worst. Keep a simple log for a few days: morning vs evening, which rooms, and whether it changes with rain or heating.
Step 2: check accessible moisture-prone areas. This includes under the kitchen sink, in bathroom cabinets, in the roof space if safely accessible, and in the subfloor if there is an access hatch. Look for water staining, mould growth on timber or insulation, and any actively wet surfaces.
